“Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. It may not be difficult to store up in the mind a vast quantity of facts within a comparatively short time, but the ability to form judgments requires the severe discipline of hard work and the tempering heat of experience and maturity.”
– Calvin Coolidge
Publisher’s Note: ZG has been moribund since the latest animated corpse was shuffled into the Offal Office and I have been busy with other projects. While I miss the wonderful readership and showcasing the select but awesome guest writers who have graced this great hall, I have simply had to concentrate on other projects.
I have surfaced only to do shameless self-promotion on my latest extracurricular endeavors. Not writing and interacting with the ZG faithful has been a blow that I probably can’t remedy for another one to three years when I retire and the muzzle is off.

I have started two podcasts, one on irregular warfare and one on Stoicism (The Dash is now permanently shuddered), two of the great intellectual and moral obsessions of my life.
Now everyone remembers the last scene in Quigley Down Under where Matthew Quigley guns down the antagonist with a pistol and the entire movie ably showed Quigley’s extraordinary talent shooting a long gun and made some unfounded assumptions that cost the evil rancher his life.
Now I can’t shoot like the cinematic Quigley but I do have skills beyond my abolitionist scribbling hence my dabbling in podcasting on these two subjects but long-time readers have seen me speak on these things before.
So I would be obliged if you give these a listen and know that sometime in the future, rhetorically,“[s]pears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered” when I return to abolitionist commentary.
I plan on issuing episodes of Chasing Ghosts: An Irregular Warfare Podcast fortnightly.
A podcast series peeking behind the curtain at the vast machinery and briar patch politics of fighting terrorism and insurgency and everything in between. I’m a “COINtra” and not a “COINdinista”, the latter are the vast army of apparatchiks and apologists who fire the engines of Irregular Warfare (IW) planet-wide. We’re the skeptics and doubters of all things IW and special operations. And we are a tiny sliver of the IW community. I have noticed a jarring gap in this part of the discussion and intend on filling the breach.
