France Shrugs: Dissolution Lente by Bill Buppert

“Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of man who can fabricate it.”

― Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism

“It is the greatest truth of our age: information is not knowledge.”

– Caleb Carr

Emmanuel Macron is a facile and Machiavellian intriguer of the highest order. I will leave to others in the commentariat to discuss his bona fides for French President, his abhorrent collectivist notions of governing and all the other platitudes that point to a creature that has provided the planetary if not historical model for the dangers of the Peter Principle. He is a man out of his depth, which may be anything beyond a minor provincial council position and even that would be a stretch. Like Hollande, the toxic socialist doppelganger to Obama in France, Macron will be more of the same. I do take solace in Hollande’s communist 75% super tax being an abject failure.

The French fully embrace Napoleon Bonaparte’s tried maxim: “In politics, stupidity is not a handicap.”

Macron is marketed as a center candidate in France but a centrist candidate in the French polity is just to the left of Barak Obama.

We are hearing now that his campaign emails were hacked. I hope that this gives a revealing glimpse into the Marxist sausage factory that is En Marche!. Like the kabuki of the Democrats and Republicans in America, the party selections in France are collectivist in their orientation in every respect. And, of course, all the usual suspects are coming out of the woodwork to blame the Russians.

“Vitali Kremez, director of research with New York-based cyber intelligence firm Flashpoint, told Reuters his review indicates that APT 28, a group tied to the GRU, the Russian military intelligence directorate, was behind the leak. He cited similarities with U.S. election hacks that have been previously attributed to that group.”

The singular reason for the Kremlin being targeted as the bogeyman is that France has a deep state and intelligence community (IC) apparatus that is always pimping for more money or power. Sound familiar?

The DGSE (General Directorate for External Security), DGSI (General Directorate for Internal Security) and the DRM (Directorate of Military Intelligence) are just as prone to politicizing analysis as the three letter agencies in the West. For those interested, Douglas Porch’s history of French intelligence up to the Gulf War is a fair appraisal of performance. The examination of the French intelligence crisis in 1940 is worth the price of admission alone. Outside of the USSR and Great Britain (food rationing still common in 1953) during that time, the French were living in a similarly massive centralized state that harkened back to the totalitarian nonsense imposed by the Sun King.

How does its IC do so? Is an existential state sponsored cyber threat like Russia worth more money and power or a boutique hacking organization operating on a shoestring out of a foreign embassy. Remember, this is not hacking in the classic sense of breaking into systems firewalls but usually logic bearing memory devices smuggled out of facilities and handed off in dead drops.

The National Socialist and Communist bloviators of old don’t hold a candle to the verbal hypocrisy and magniloquence this creature spews without communicating anything but the statist quo in the Fifth Republic.

If Macron does anything morally right, it will usually be by mistake and not design. He already self-medicates his collectivist haze with these nebulous bromides:

“I am not just a liberal movement. I come from the progressive Left. I am trying to refresh and counter the system.”

In the end, he is the usual suspect in French politics, a friend to bigger government and the enemy of all individual liberty in the country. What’s startling is that Obama could run for the French Presidency and fit right in as a left candidate on their spectrum.

The current immigration crisis is merely another feather in the crown of France’s self-imposed enstupidation after their disastrous colonial experiments in Algeria. But it is also important to distinguish between the fine lines of Muslim communities and Muslim populations. The latter is certainly existent in France but far more integrated into the fabric of the society than the travails assaulting the northern European countries.

But the next ten years will be the turning point for the entire European Continent as the second Battle of Tours takes on steam. Islam is on the march.

Whatever happens with the French vote, I can assure one thing: if it is paper balloting, La Pen may win but if it is electronic balloting then Macron wins overwhelmingly much like Brussels’s Frankenstein creation of the EU. France did sober up and on March 6, 2017 announced that Internet voting (which had previously been offered to citizens abroad) would not be permitted in the 2017 legislative elections due to cyber-security concerns. If this applies to the national election, so be it. The government is either running scared of hacking concerns or more likely it makes vote counting more easily manipulated.

In the end, France chooses either the international socialist or national socialism under Macron and La Pen respectively. The same choices faced in the West since the end of the War to Save Josef Stalin.

There is no happy ending.

One singular lesson stands out: Like American, France will discover that it can’t vote its way out of the mess the government has created.

“…it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.(…) …voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked…”

– Hermann Göring at the Nuremburg Trials

Just to the left of Barack Obama is ever so slightly right of center, but not so far right that “centrist” would seem inaccurate.
