Secession Tales Revisited (Again) by Bill Buppert

Publisher’s Note: My posting has been erratic of late because I recently returned from business overseas and have been absorbed in reconnecting stateside and tending to all the necessities of reunion after a prolonged absence and having to seek new opportunities to leave the cave and sustain the household. Please enjoy the following screeds on the only freedom that really matters when all is said and done – opting out locally, philosophically and existentially.

Yet another fictional narrative series on possible futures in the USSA like the last two posts which were excerpts from my forthcoming novel..

I inaugurated the first of several conversations about secession several years ago.  The first essay is published below and the accompanying essays are linked below that.  Mordor on the Potomac can NEVER be reformed.  You can send good people but they will be sucked into a system of corruption and servitude that is unrivaled in the last thousand years in the magnitude of treasure and blood expended outside of large conflicts.  Buppert’s Corollary to Acton’s Axiom is that “Power attracts the corruptible and absolute power attracts even worse”.   Rare is the ruler in any annal of history whose psyche is not possessed of a severe psychopathy or sociopathy; they rule and seek to do so because they wish to control others ultimately through any means necessary.  Five millennia of chronicled history is unimpeachable – government, whether secular or religious, is the source of ALL slavery and the fount of most violence leading to the abattoirs like Nazi Germany or the USSR.  We are on the road ourselves.

The wars we now engage in AfPak, Yemen, Iraq and all the other neo-imperialist shitpits planet-wide are simply more expenditures of blood and treasure on top of the War on Drugs, Poverty, etc.  The Soviet Union was quite vicious but at least they were honest about their form of government.  We are bombarded by the government/media complex on the freedoms and liberties we enjoy.  What?  The attack on 9/11 and our war on Islam is not a response to their antipathy toward the aforementioned freedoms and liberties.  They have simply reacted to decades of war on the Middle East.  We were told they hate us for our freedoms but that charge is more fairly leveled at our own government.

The final deSovietization of these united States will only occur when the American fractures, dissolves, devolves and calves off into the inevitable regional enclaves which have been created already through spontaneous order.  Remember that all the analysts were caught flat-footed when the USSR collapsed in 1989.  It can happen here so you had better prepare for the worst because it is coming.  That is not one Black Swan approaching, it is a flock.

The America in the Inland West is significantly different in culture and temperament from the Soviet-lite states of the Northeast.  This country was born in a divorce from the United Kingdom and a secondary revolution in 1860-65 to right fissures that had long been festering and it is time for the country to file for divorce again – from Washington.

In other news, I have just completed all six parts of a series I am doing with ProfCJ at the Dangerous History Podcast on Irregular Warfare.  Indeed, we started with one part anticipated and ended with six and potentially more.

I wrote the Foreword for my friend Jim Rawles’ latest book, Land of Promise, which is now available for pre-order on Amazon. He is really stepping up his game.

My books are available on Amazon and I would love some honest reviews if you have the time.

I spoke on this very topic of secession at the Porcupine Festival for the Free State Project in Lancaster, New Hampshire on Friday, 22 June 2012 as Keynote Speaker.  -BB

“Good Morning, Governor, how might we…”

“Mr. President, I realize you are a busy man so let’s get down to brass tacks…we are calling the ball and withdrawing our support of your Administration and the Federal government in DC. Effective immediately, we have coordinated to place all outgoing receipts to the IRS in a caged account here in Boise…”

“Governor, you can’t do that…”

“Please don’t interrupt while I am speaking as we are from this point onward peers in the family of nations. I hope you have reviewed the diplomatic instruments we sent by courier last night to Department of State which delineates the terms of our divorce.”

“I did receive those and you have no earthly idea the can of whoop-…”

“Please, sir, maintain the decorum of these proceedings so we can move forward to an amicable separation. I give you my personal assurance on the safety and well-being of all Federal personnel we have detained for immediate repatriation to the remainder of these United States. Any non-law enforcement Federal personnel who wish to remain behind will be permitted to do so.”

“I hope you have thought through the consequences of what you are embarking on.”

“Mr. President, we have had over two hundred years to give the rulers on the Potomac a chance but that time has expired. Effective immediately, all so-called Federal lands now belong to the nation of Idaho and we will dispose of these lands at our leisure. In the interest of burying the hatchet, we will not seek compensation for the seizure, abuse and tenure of Federal practices on the aforementioned land and call the balance even.”

“Those are my lands, Governor…”

“In actuality, they belong to neither of us, sir. On to other business, I have alerted my National Guard forces to establish checkpoints at all the main arterials in and out of Idaho. All National Guard forces deployed overseas will return home in the next 48 hours. I would also caution you on the use of military force to convince Idaho and its citizens to forcibly return to the yoke of the Union. Idaho has a well-deserved reputation as a rather well-equipped state in firearms possession and use. As Yamamoto said, you may find a rifle behind every blade of grass.”

“Are you threatening the president of the United States?”

“No, sir, I am simply making an observation about the hazards of one country invading another.”

“You are land-locked, Governor and wholly dependent on federal subsidy for a great deal of employment and infrastructure in Idaho.”

“No longer, the tremendous tax burden across the spectrum formally imposed in our nation as a subject State in your country is now effectively terminated and we are going to unleash the free market to address all of our former shortcomings as a result of the overarching government supremacism practiced here before. In telephone conversations with my neighboring governors, we are on the verge of Confederation negotiations that will pave the way for Idaho embassies in British Columbia, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. We do intend on opening a consular office in DC as soon as we can ensure the diplomatic baggage containing sufficient weapons assures our safety in the greater DC metropolitan area for our diplomatic personnel.”

“Governor, what Constitutional right do you have to secede from the US?”

“Mr. President, the behavior you have exhibited toward the Constitution has been at best characterized by active neglect and abhorrence for the restraint on governance in the Bill of Rights. I am rather surprised you would resort to assuming the document in any way has weight in Washington, DC. I would suggest my rights extend as far as our ability to throw off what has become a government of occupation instead of cooperation. We resign, sir and wish to go in peace.”

“I will use every measure in my arsenal to force you back into the fold.”

“Mr. President, thank you for the heads-up but we have taken certain precautions to ensure that any rash measures on your part have a disproportionate impact in the DC/Virginia corridor. Please don’t press us on the issue. I would like to offer one more rather moderate important proposal to our future business. These United States as administered by DC are now essentially bankrupt. War on the world, out of control spending and borrowing, debt and deficit, non-funded future liabilities in the tens of trillions and a banking infrastructure rotten at every level has pushed the US to an economic abyss from which it cannot shrink. We will provide you a demonstration project of tiny government, free banking and a formerly enslaved citizenry unleashed to realize their potential with no government interference. We simply wish to go our own way untethered from the Remora Nation DC came to symbolize.”

“Governor, this conversation is over.”

“Good day, Mr. President.”

    1. Robert,

I find it curious that no such thing occurred when the Czech-Slovak split occurred along with the dissolution of Greater Yugoslavia and the USSR. Chinese soft power projection is global but military extra-territorial ambition is rather ahistorical except in continuous modalities to China proper. New Zealand offers a far more lucrative object for Chinese extra-territorial adventures.

  1. I live where I stand but I call a small place north of Coeur D’Alene my home.
The would never be Butch Otter saying those words.

    1. We were just at the CDA Resort for a few days visiting our sons. Indeed, no modern US governor has the sand or moral compass.

  2. Hey Bill, I already seceded, just need more friends to turn it into full blown legitimate abolition, (did I just repeat myself…legitimate-abolition? redundant, my bad).

The more the merrier as they say!

  3. Abolition: A crazy idea people are not slaves to tyranny or tyrants.

    Consider it another way.

Anarchy is like the 2nd Amendment.

This is an kind of absolute. Anybody and every person in every system or social construct of power and coercion or force involved in any form of control of and over others does not want the individual to have either. Here in lies the root and ultimate function of tyranny. Wether it is based on religious, economic, political, environmental, genetic or cultural dogma. It is still collectivism.

And there in lies the conundrum.

The circular logic, a circular self delusional rationale Anarchy is not possible as it requires a moral society that is not possible is a profound irony of hypocrisy in itself. Only a person or system of control could construct and advocate such a fabrication it is an impossible and an insane idea people choose not to be slaves and live in total liberty. That in itself is as immoral as humanly possible a human can be.

Of course anarchy is Anarchy. That is the beauty of Abolition. It is a delicious rejection rich beyond words of tyranny. It requires an essential lack of the most fundamental morality of the soul and spirit to say that Anarchy is impossible. That is why it is Abolition and Liberty is so reviled, feared, and so widely misunderstood.

To put it in the most plain words and context, I am an anarchist. I am living proof positive itself Anarchy works. I do not would not and can not impose Anarchy because it is impossible for me to force or coerce you or any other person to live in Anarchy. It would not be Anarchy. The only thing “impossible” about Anarchy is Anarchy can not be forced upon others. Anarchy is only an individual choice. That is inherent built in morality itself. Anarchy isn’t a system of power. It is an inherent form of absolute individual self determination. Anarchy is total empowerment of the individual. It is a way of life.

If Anarchy scares you, if you are threatened by Anarchy, if you fear Anarchy is some form of social and political bogey man, if you afraid Anarchy is a crazy movement that is impossible because it destroys the “social contract”, “the social order”, then you are right about Anarchy and miss the essential element of Anarchy simply because you are not an Anarchist.

    Yet.

      1. Heh!

        Now that’s a hilarious comment.

Here’s another right back at you… Can a statists grok what a wonderful joke that is?

  4. Interesting. Though the fellow doesn’t make any mention of it, I wonder how crucial an open source insurgent economy is to such a scenario the author postulates. And if he understands how important unfettered free economy is to such a future.

Because it sure seems plain, in a centralized statist environment of today’s legacy economy, this kind of future is going to be fought tooth and nail by the state/corporate complex.

  5. First off, welcome home Bill. I remember reading these when they first came out. It’s on Lew Rockwell.com that I got introduced to you. I remember thinking how great it would be if your Secession Tales came true, I don’t really feel that way now. I’ve realized secession from a state perspective is a fantacy, but mental secession of the single person is the key to being free. And that’s where I am now, I may still play the game but I no longer recognize the Governments so called authority over my life. I’ve seceded my heart and mind from the state and have never felt more free. So, thank you for the light in the darkness.

  6. The linked article is an example of a person’s grand fantasy that he will seek to impose on others. In his first example of self-driving cars, parking revenue, etc., he posits an outcome that is only going to be possible by large scale coercion from fascism. Free men will often choose to drive their own cars, and the whole “driverless car” business is something that cannot freely emerge, but will require .gov force.

There is simply no way for large aggregations of truly free men to cooperate to such an extent. Eliminating government would, of necessity, mean keeping things very small and local. This is the fallacy that is simply not understood. Anarchy does not scale! Human nature will not allow it. The more people you put together in one place, the worse they behave. ALWAYS. Too many will take the path of Nietzsche and pursue “the will to power” with the inevitable result.

I DO like the article you linked before concerning the Kulaks. It is very much “on the money”. Thanks for that.

  7. I found your page through the forward you wrote for Capt. Rawles new book. I agree with what you have written in this article 100%:

“The final deSovietization of these united States will only occur when the American fractures, dissolves, devolves and calves off into the inevitable regional enclaves which have been created already through spontaneous order.”

I would not call it secession however, the former Republican form of Government the one set up in the 1790s is no more, what we have is a soft oligarchic totalitarian state. One that encompasses the territory of the Former USA, and retains some residual aspects of our former constitutional Government, in a sort of Potemkin village illusion retained, much like the old Roman Senate in the days of the Empire, as a way to placate the sheeple.

Truly the beginning of the end was when the CSA was not allowed to leave the Union (so called) regardless of the tyranny and horrors of slavery, the war was fought not to end slavery but to prevent secession, once it was made clear that states were not free to leave, threat is when the slow crawl to Federal government tyranny began, to the torrent of Deep State-Administrative State dictatorship began all but unabated since.

As the Constitution has been effectively dismembered it can no longer considered to be in force, and the states which coalesced together under the old Constitution and agreed to be governed under it, should be free to determine their own destinies, whether it be under the Oligarchical regime eliminating from Washington, as a part of another grouping, or as independent free states.

That states, can not effectively do so, at this time, is not to the point. The point is that they have the same God given rights as were defined under the Declaration of Independence to do so.

Another interesting question is what about mostly rural states that are controlled by the large urban areas that have diametrically opposing viewpoints from the areas that while much less populated, contain much larger land areas. Such as Colorado, Washington State, etc?

  8. I think while the FUSA will eventually break up, I fear it will be more like the former Yugoslavia’s situation than the break up of Czechoslovakia.
